NegOcc farmers pledge to back PBBM’s effort to ensure there is enough rice.
To ensure that the nation has enough rice, farmers in Negros Occidental pledged their support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s agricultural flagship programs, Masagana 150 and Masagana 200.
During the Provincial IA Congress held at the Sugarland Hotel here on Monday, leaders of the Negros Occidental Federation of Irrigators’ Associations (NOFIA) signed the promise of commitment in the presence of National Irrigation Administration (NIA) officials led by Administrator Benny Antiporda.
“We hereby reaffirm our dedication to and unflinching support for the President’s agricultural development initiative. In close collaboration with the NIA, we will commit to leading the way in implementing the program’s main thrust and all Department of Agriculture initiatives.
The federation is made up of 160 IAs in the province, with 16,154 farmer members cultivating 19,661 hectares of irrigated farmland.
The Federation of Irrigators’ Association of Central Negros-Bago River Irrigation System (BRIS) Inc.’s Pedro Limpangog and Raul Fasiolan, as well as the president and vice president of Farmers Irrigators Association-Pangiplan RIS Inc.’s, Herminigildo Ebardolaza and Raul Rallos, and the president and vice president of NOFIA Inc.’s Romeo Arguelles and Myrn
Antiporda, NIA-Western Visayas Regional Manager Rory Avance, and Negros Occidental Irrigation Management Office Division Manager Isaias Melendez all accepted the signed pledge.
Farmers who use Masagana 150 are anticipated to produce 7.5 tons of inbred rice per hectare at the cost of PHP8.38 per kilogram. In contrast, farmers who use Masagana 200 may produce 10 tons of hybrid rice per hectare at the cost of PHP7.82 per kilogram.
Antiporda asked the IAs in his letter to save the irrigation systems so that the next generations might continue to use these services.
“The government can’t handle it by itself. The IAs are essential to our success, according to the NIA director.
It’s past time for NIA to ask for assistance from our IA sisters and brothers. Ating mga irigasyon niyo bantayan. Whenever Sira requests your report so that Hindi is lumaki. (Keep an eye on our irrigation systems. Report the harm right away to prevent it from getting worse),” he continued.
