In China’s import fair, PH records the most sales.

Despite the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic that hit in 2020, the nation’s sales in China’s largest import exhibition have been rising for the previous four years.

The Philippines’ sales at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) this year were a record high since the nation joined the expo in 2018, according to a report released on Monday by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Sales at the Philippine exhibit at the CIIE this year totaled USD655.15 million, up from USD597 million in 2021. Sales increased to USD 256 million in 2019 from USD 128 million in transactions in 2018.

The head of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center-Shanghai, Mario Tani, stated in a statement that “the amount of products we export to China has vastly increased in the past five to six years, and sales were five times larger compared to the first time the Philippines has participated in the 2018 CIIE.”

The onsite sales and bulk purchase agreements accounted for over 97 percent of all deals at the CIIE, while the remaining 3 percent came from online business matching operations.

At the CIIE, “FOOD Philippines” continues to represent the nation, displaying Philippine food items with significant promise in the Chinese market.

The Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai, represented by Consul General Jose Ignacio, stated: “What is constant is that the FOOD Philippines Pavilion’s central message – ‘healthy and fresh’, as only food products from the Philippines can offer, bar none, and as devoted and new buyers and importers alike can strongly attest to.

This year’s CIIE attracted more Filipino businesses as there were 62 exporting businesses in the food and food-related industries gathered in the Philippine pavilion.

The 500,000 square meter National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, China, hosted the CIIE this year from November 5 to November 10.

The largest import exhibition in China, CIIE, attracts foreign companies looking to penetrate the 1.4 billion-person Chinese market.

At the CIIE, no Chinese manufacturers took part.
