Attorney Richard Santos Clarin has been appointed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to lead the Games and Amusement Board (GAB).

Richard Santos Clarin has been appointed head of the Games and Amusement Board, according to Malacaang press secretary Daphne Osea-Paez, who made the announcement on Thursday.

To combat and prevent the emergence of illegal bookies and other types of organized unlawful gambling associated with all play-for-pay sports and amusement games, the GAB regulates and oversees professional sports and related activities.

In order to promote and maintain an honest, fair, and orderly conduct of games, to protect the betting public, patrons, and licensees who are actually practicing the professional sport in question, and to make professional sports activities a reliable source of income, it also exercises supervision over and regulation of those activities.

Allan Troy Dandan Baquir, who represents the federal government, Edelberto “Bert” Salgo Mozo, and Tomas Fausto Lahom III, who both represent the business and investment sectors, are among the eight new board members of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) that Osea-Paez also mentioned that the President appointed.

Honorario Kagabio Aliado III, Jose Marie Balandra Ponce, Kenneth Lemuel Go Rementilla, Amable Banco Tolentino, and Maria Cecilia Bobadila Vidare are the acting members who represent the business sector.

The Bases Conversion and Development Act of 1992, Republic Act (RA) No. 7227, Section 13(c), requires the SBMA Board of Directors to consist of 15 members representing various industries.

There must be two national government members, and five private sector representatives from the current naval stations, public works center, ship repair facility, navy supply depot, and naval air stations, and the balance must be made up of business and investment sector representatives.

The SBMA is the Philippine government’s operating and implementation agency for developing Subic Bay Freeport (SBF), which spans 670 square kilometers, into a self-sustaining tourism, industrial, commercial, financial, and investment center to create jobs.

The US Naval installation in Subic Bay was formerly known as the SBF.
