Poe looks for a test on framework misfire that deferred many flights.

On Monday, Senator Grace Poe stated that the massive flight delays that impacted approximately 65,000 passengers on New Year’s Day Sunday are issues of national concern that should not occur again.

The Chair of the Committee on Public Services said that they will open an investigation to find out who is responsible and how to prevent similar events from happening again.

“The effectiveness and competence of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is crucial to the survival of thousands of individuals. “In a statement, Poe stated that CAAP must be accountable and transparent.

Poe stated that the failure appears to be CAAP and its navigation equipment after the Manila Electric Company clarified in a statement that there was a steady supply of power.

“Allow them sufficient time to resume normal flight operations. After that, she stated, “we will conduct an investigation and direct them to submit a comprehensive report of what caused the alleged glitch and power outage.”

On January 23, Congress will resume its sessions.

In terms of the economy and national security, Senator JV Ejercito suggested that the government take back essential utilities like the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.

The fact that there should be a backup for the Air Traffic Management System is baffling. Having an absolutely non-working radar framework isn’t just risky for air travel yet is a worry of public safety,” Ejercito said in a different proclamation.

An investigation has already been started by the Aerodrome and Air Navigation Safety Oversight Office of CAAP.

On Sunday, during a press conference, CAAP mentioned technical issues that had an impact on nearly 300 flights.

At the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), authorities have recorded 288 flights that have been delayed, canceled, or diverted as of 6 p.m. on Sunday.

According to Philippine Airlines spokesperson Cielo Villaluna’s radio interview on Monday, the domino effect would be felt for at least the next three days. Partial operations with limited capacity resumed at 4 p.m., and normal operations resumed at 5:50 p.m.

“The incident that caused the system to lose power was caused by a problem in the electrical network of the system, and the system’s uninterruptible power supply, which is supposed to be used as a backup power supply, also failed.” The Department of Transportation (DOTr) stated in a Monday statement that the primary cause of the power supply issue is still under investigation.

Overhaul

CAAP representative Eric Apolonio said in a radio meeting that they are anticipating fixing the framework after the endorsement of their PHP120-million financial plan to get extra parts and overhaul the Correspondences, Route, and Reconnaissance/Air Traffic The executives (CNS/ATM).

“Alam niyo po ang technology, kelangan mag-upgrade ka. Imagine if 2010 were your year. Therefore, 2019, nag-operational Between that time, malaki na po ‘yung improvement ng innovation na dapat talaga isunod namin (You know how innovation is. You need to get better. Imagine that this was created in 2010 and launched in 2019. We were supposed to keep up with the rapid advancement of technology since then),” Apolonio stated.

The nation has 13 radars operating under the CNS/ATM system at NAIA Terminals 1 and 2, Clark, Tagaytay, Aparri, Laoag, and Cebu-Mt. Majic, Quezon-Palawan, Zamboanga, Mactan, Bacolod, Kalibo, and Davao, which together make up about 70% of the airspace in the Philippines.

The DOTr stated, “With the introduction of the Automatic Dependent Surveillance โ€“ Contract and the Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications, the CNS/ATM is able to cover 100 percent of the remaining oceanic airspace, increasing air traffic capacity and safety in the oceanic region of the Manila flight information region.”

Blackeye Senator Nancy Binay urged the Department of Budget and Management to find funding sources for CAAP to upgrade its system and equipment because she was concerned that tourists may now be reconsidering their plans to visit the Philippines.

“Unfortunately, we just stole the headlines from every foreign newspaper and television station. If we don’t address, solve, and fix our broken public transportation system, how can we guarantee our foreign guests a one-of-a-kind, high-value experience?” In a statement, Binay said.

It was unfortunate, according to Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, that it occurred just as normal air travel had resumed following the removal of Covid-19 travel restrictions.

โ€œAside from the management of incoming and outgoing flights, airport operations have an impact. The public authority should make every effort to guarantee that this doesn’t reoccur, given the effect it would have on impacted travelers and the bad introduction that it would have on our unfamiliar guests,” he said in a proclamation

He likewise approached air terminal specialists to address the requirements of impacted travelers and guarantee their well-being and accommodation until typical air terminal activities are re-established.

Gatchalian stated, “The public, especially affected passengers, should also be informed of the latest situation and should be made aware of new flight schedules.”
