To increase mobility for farmers and locals in isolated agricultural areas of southern Negros Occidental, a total of PHP29.5 million in road projects have just been finished.

According to a report released on Monday by the Department of Public Works and Highways-Western Visayas (DPWH-6), the PHP19.6 million concreted road will now benefit at least 173 homes in the Barangays Vista Alegre and Consuelo in Ilog town.

The upgraded two-lane road, which cost PHP9.9 million, allowed farmers from Barangay Tagukon in neighboring Kabankalan City to deliver their products more quickly.

The 945.5 linear meter road in Ilog, which is situated along farmlands and agricultural areas planted with sugarcane and crops, will help farmers and agricultural producers, according to DPWH-6 Regional Director Nerie Bueno.

“Vista Alegre and Consuelo’s residents now have easier access to the town center for their basic necessities. It will also be simple to supply social, health, educational, and other essential government services, she continued.

The paved road enhances mobility, facilitates the distribution of agricultural products, and makes it simpler for people to access essential government services in Barangay Tagukon, where the majority of areas cultivate palay, bananas, sugarcanes, and vegetables as the residents’ primary source of food.

Four communities in Barangay Tagukon’s upland sections, which are known to be significant agricultural product producers, have access to this route, according to Bueno.

Farmers can now easily transport their produce to markets thanks to the concrete road, according to farmer Falconiere Gomez.

We used to transport items by either carrying them ourselves or using animals. Then, getting to the market required a lengthy journey,” he continued.

The Negros Occidental Third District Engineering Office, under the direction of district engineer Rodney Gustilo, carried out the road concreting work.
