POGOS public opinion will be taken into account in the panel’s report.
The public’s opinion of the operation of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) in the Philippines, according to Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, will be one of the crucial factors that lawmakers will take into account when drafting a committee report on the economic and social impact of POGOs in the nation.
The majority of Filipinos, according to a Pulse Asia survey, think POGOs are bad for the nation, the chair of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means said in making the claim.
The results of the survey are a significant piece of information that we will take into account because they reflect the opinions of our population and offer pertinent context for the problem at hand, according to Gatchalian.
The Valenzuela City lawmaker claims that the Pulse Asia study, which was conducted from November 27 to December 1 of last year, revealed that 58% of respondents believed that the use of POGOs in the nation was harmful.
Both location and class reflect the general attitude.
According to respondents’ belief that POGO operations in the nation are damaging, 61 percent of those in the National Capital Region, 55 percent in Luzon, 53 percent in Visayas, and 67 percent in Mindanao.
Seventy percent of respondents in the ABC class, 58 percent in the D class, and 44 percent in the E class have the same sentiment in terms of social class.
The proliferation of vices, which was cited as the primary reason for the POGO industry’s negative impact on the nation by 67 percent of respondents, as well as the rise in Chinese nationals being involved in POGO-related crimes (57 percent), tax evasion by POGOs (43 percent), the number of Chinese nationals employed by POGOs (also 43 percent), the lack of additional opportunities for Filipinos (33 percent), and i.
Only 19% of respondents indicated that POGOs are useful.
The industry is helpful to the country, according to 20 percent of respondents in Luzon, 26 percent in the Visayas, and 17 percent in Mindanao, but just 12 percent of respondents in the NCR, where many POGOs are active, agreed.
The 19% of respondents who claimed POGOs are helpful are divided into three classes according to their class: 10% in the ABC class, 20% in the D class, and 27% in the E class.
According to Gatchalian, the majority of Filipinos think that having POGOs there is bad for the nation.
The Senate Ways and Means Committee is now trying to finish a committee report in connection with an investigation into the financial gains and social costs of allowing POGO operations in the nation.
