Disaster resilience depends on capable, dedicated LGU officials: DENR
For long-lasting effects on the ground, local chief executives must be competent and dedicated to executing policies on disaster and climate resiliency, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Antonia Loyzaga said on Thursday.
Loyzaga stated that they have collaborated with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and local government mayors to streamline disaster risk reduction management and climate change policies during the beginning of the DENR multi-stakeholders forum’s Mindanao leg.
For chief executives, it is crucial. No amount of research will be helpful to us if it isn’t devoted, competent, and visionary leadership, she said.
She stated that it is now necessary for various industries and government organizations to participate in tackling environmental and climate-related challenges.
According to Loyzaga, the DENR has a productive working relationship with the city government and will continue to look for new opportunities to collaborate with Rolando Uy’s administration.
Mindanao, according to Loyzaga, “needs a customized and contextualized approach,” and he reassured stakeholders that the DENR will keep up its intensive community discussions.
Uy expressed his views in a mining forum in December of last year and urged task force members to step up their efforts to combat unlawful mining operations.
In order to make the city the first in the Philippines to use drone technology for reforestation while also giving people possibilities for a living, Uy also established a relationship with a startup company called Galansiyang.
In an effort to improve and craft adaptive, inclusive, and sustainable development pathways built on strategic partnerships and reliable science for the agency’s Resiliency Framework for Environment and Natural Resources, at least 300 business and sector leaders registered to attend the multi-stakeholders forum on Feb. 2-3.
