PNP is mandated by DILG to evaluate the license and issue rules for firearms.
Benjamin Abalos Jr., secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), issued an order to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday to evaluate its procedures for issuing weapons and permits to carry them outside of one’s home.
After Aparri, Cagayan Vice Mayor Rommel Alameda, and his comrades John Duane Alameda, Abraham Ramos Jr., Ismael Nanay, Alexander delos Angeles, and Alvin Abel were killed in an ambush in Nueva Vizcaya, the order was issued.
Around 8:45 a.m. on Sunday in Sitio Kinacao in Nueva Vizcaya’s Bagabag town, six masked males wearing police uniforms opened fire on the six people who were riding in a black Hyundai Starex van.
Abalos also requested that the PNP step up its “Oplan Katok” visits to gun owners’ homes in an effort to get them to turn up their weapons that aren’t registered or have permits that have expired.
“Patrols must also be done more frequently so that criminal elements would think twice before carrying out their evil schemes,” Abalos said in a statement. “Magsasagawa rin ng mas madalas na pagpapatrolya sa mga lansangan upang magdalawang-isip ang mga masasamang-loob na isakatuparan ang kanilang masa
The head of DILG also gave the PNP instructions to intensify its enforcement of laws against the sale of police uniforms.
According to him, the PNP must make sure that only authorized suppliers are permitted to sell these products and that only legal police officers are using them.
“Ipinapaabot po namin ang aming pakikiramay sa naulilang pamilya ni Vice Mayor Alameda at ng kanyang mga kasama,” the speaker said. We offer our sincere sympathies to the bereaved family of Vice Mayor Alameda and his men. Makakaasa ang mga kaanak at pamilya ng mga biktima na tututukan ng kapulisan ang kaso at gagawin ang lahat. The police will focus on the case and take all necessary steps to ensure that justice is served,” Abalos stated in a statement to the family members of the victims.
Abalos reported that a special investigation task group of the Police Regional Office 2 (Cagayan Valley) is currently carrying out a thorough investigation to find and apprehend the criminals.
“The DILG is steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the Filipino people in the direction of a more tranquil and secure Philippines. Violence cannot be allowed to take hold. For the sake of maintaining peace in our nation, let’s cooperate, Abalos remarked.

PNP head Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. stated that they are investigating business, politics, and personal resentment as potential motives for the crime.
When they stopped a road in Bagabag town and subsequently opened fire on Alameda’s car, witnesses claimed the assailants were wearing police uniforms. He claimed that part of the investigation is to establish whether the assailants are actually police officers.
“Since they appeared to be wearing police uniforms, we are still trying to determine if the criminals are actually PNP employees. If they are police officers, we will pursue the investigation and use all available legal remedies. The usage of PNP uniforms is inappropriate since it tarnishes the reputation of the uniformed services, particularly the police force. In order to find a solution and bring the vice mayor and the other victims justice, we encourage the community’s cooperation “Added he.
The vehicle’s chassis number, which was discovered torched in Nueva Vizcaya hours after the event, had some numbers lifted, according to Col. Jean Fajardo, a PNP spokeswoman.
“The Highway Patrol Group in Nueva Vizcaya was able to lift certain chassis numbers, but it appears that the chassis number and the engine number of the burned Mitsubishi Adventure had been tampered with and defaced based on the early findings of the forensic group in Nueva Vizcaya. The Special Investigation Task Group is now cooperating with the other local police to locate the location of the registered owner, and we already collaborated with the Land Transportation Office and already have the name of the registered owner “Added she.
Col. Redrico Maranan, the PNP’s chief information officer, stated that after consultation with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), it was discovered that the government plate that had been observed on the car belonged to a vehicle that was currently being impounded at Nueva Vizcaya State University.
