The CDO government prioritizes reducing teenage pregnancy.
The local chief executive announced on Monday that the local government unit (LGU) will continue to prioritize reducing teenage pregnancies this year.
As part of the municipal government’s campaign for preventing teenagers from becoming parents at a young age, Mayor Rolando Uy stated during a visit to the village of Bayanga that spreading awareness and education in the local communities is important.
According to him, there is greater worry over teenage pregnancies when it comes to issues affecting not only the family but also the community and society at large.
According to Uy, the City Health Office (CHO) is in charge of developing programs to increase public awareness of the implications of unintended pregnancies, particularly among teenagers.
The LGU’s worry, according to CHO chief Dr. Rachel Dilla, was brought on by data from government agencies showing that the city, after Bukidnon, had the second-highest incidences of teenage pregnancies in the area.
The moment the mayor saw this, he wanted to contact the parents and have a conversation with them, according to Dilla.
According to Dilla, the majority of teenage pregnancies in the city are attributed to young women being “not ready” for parenthood. She explained that this is where parents, particularly moms, can help to mentor their kids.
The Adolescent Health and Development Program was introduced by the LGU, the Philippine Population Commission, and Development in Northern Mindanao last week.
In carrying out the monitoring and evaluation activities for the social protection program for adolescent mothers and their children, the program is a component of the CHO’s community improvement division.
The city was selected as one of the test regions for the Philippine Commission on Population’s information and service delivery network for adolescent health and development, and the program would initially serve 50 beneficiaries as of June 2022.
