Due to the Monday transportation strike, the MMDA lifts its number coding system.
In light of the predicted week-long transport strike, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will suspend the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or the extended number coding scheme on Monday.
MMDA headquarters in Makati City hosted an inter-agency meeting on Sunday to finalize the emergency plans, asset prepositioning, and transit routes that may be impacted by the strike.
“The UVVRP is only suspended on Monday, March 6. Depending on the seriousness of the transport strike, we will determine whether it is necessary to suspend the number coding system in the following days “In a press release, MMDA general manager and undersecretary Procopio Lipana, who also serves as the team’s secretariat’s head, made the statement.
Local government organizations in the National Capital Region will send out about 1,200 vehicles to aid transport stranded commuters.
Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Hubert Guevarra, operations officer for the National Capital Area Police Office Col. Roman Arugay, and representatives from other government departments also attended the meeting.
The MMDA would use 25 “libreng sakay” (free ride) vehicles, including four air-conditioned buses, two non-air-conditioned buses, and 13 commuter vans, with a total capacity of 1,200 passengers each trip.
More than 2,000 MMDA employees will be responsible for providing rapid feedback and reporting regarding any areas where there are commuters who are stranded.
The majority of schools stated that all of their online classes will be full this week.
Many transport organizations, including Manibela and Piston, will stage the planned March 6โ12 transport strike in opposition to the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program, although other groups announced they would not take part.
