The Ilocos Region’s poorest residents, members of indigenous peoples’ groups, Muslims, and people who currently reside outside of their place of birth were all urged by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on Monday to obtain free birth certificates.

Birth Registration Assistance Project (PBRAP), according to PSA Ilocos Region information officer Jim Ian Bautista, seeks to increase birth registration in these spheres of society.

“The implementation of the PBRAP is one of the major programs of the PSA which seeks to ensure that all births of Filipinos are registered in the local civil registry offices for their legal identity,” he stated.

A total of 501 PSA certificates of live birth (COLB) in the secure paper had been distributed as of March 31.

According to Bautista, 254 were from Pangasinan province, 19 were from Ilocos Norte province, 220 were from Ilocos Sur, and eight were from La Union.

Bernabe Gacute, 101, of Ilocos Sur, who is the oldest PBRAP beneficiary in the Ilocos Region, was the most recent beneficiary.

Beneficiaries will obtain their COLBs printed in SECPA free of charge through this project, in addition to additional perks including discounted late registration fees and free issuing of negative certification, according to Bautista.

He continued by saying that the initiative is in line with their pledge to complete the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Decade’s goal of registering 99.5% of Filipino births by the end of 2024.
