DSWD and the British Embassy strengthen their relationship over social welfare issues

Rex Gatchalian, secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and Laure Beaufils, the British ambassador to the Philippines, talked about potential collaborations on Monday about training the social welfare workforce and reducing hunger in the Philippines.

The British envoy paid a courtesy call to the DSWD headquarters in Quezon City, where Gatchalian briefed Beaufils and her group on the agency’s attempts to reduce hunger and upskill its employees.

The Social Welfare and Development Center for Asia and the Pacific (SWADCAP), an academy for social workers and those interested in social welfare programs, will be revived, according to Gatchalian of the DSWD.

“This is intended to further equip and train the social welfare workforce and other service providers offering and implementing social protection packages,” he continued.

The academy will be entrusted with offering certificate programs and quick courses in a variety of subjects, including disaster preparedness and social protection, in order to enhance the delivery of social welfare services to the underprivileged and vulnerable groups.

Gatchalian asserted that the DSWD must develop digital food stamps that can be utilized at supermarkets and grocery stores in order to combat hunger.

Beaufils promised to make the curriculum and other materials utilized by the British government for the academy available to the DSWD.

She also pledged that her administration will offer technological support for the distribution of digital food handouts.

Gatchalian promised to keep fortifying the DSWD’s ties with foreign governments in accordance with the instruction of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., which will aid in the fight against hunger and enhance the provision of services.
