The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) assists 120 Bulacan microenterprises with their livelihoods
Under its Livelihood Seeding Program–Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here has given livelihood support to 120 microenterprises in this province (LSP-NSB).
On Tuesday, September 28, 2021, DTI province director Edna D. Dizon stated the LSP-NSB provides for a broader reach of economic development support by bringing government services closer to the people via collaborations with local government units (LGUs).
“The DTI would assist capacitate barangay employees to offer basic business advising or information dissemination services to micro, small, and medium businesses (MSMEs) in the area via Barangay Development Councils (BDCs),” Dizon said in an interview.
The program’s participants come from 17 communities across the province.
Dizon enlisted the help of barangay authorities, who helped clear the way for the delivery of livelihood kits worth no more than PHP8,000 each microenterprise.
The livelihood kits include things that would help the recipients’ companies recover and develop.
“Aside from providing livelihood kits to eligible recipients, the aforementioned program offers a variety of services to MSMEs, including facilitation of business name registration, business advice, business information, and advocacy,” Dizon added.
MSME beneficiaries of the LSP-NSB program include sole proprietors, cooperatives, or sectoral associations located in identified barangays, including those in communist-afflicted areas and vulnerable communities such as Indigenous Peoples (IPs), refugees, or stateless persons, also known as persons of concern.
MSMEs impacted by natural and human-caused catastrophes, including health disasters resulting from epidemics and pandemics, would get priority support.
In 2020, DTI-Bulacan distributed 200 livelihood kits, held 40 entrepreneurship seminars in 20 barangays with 200 beneficiaries (10 beneficiaries per barangay), and informed 2,200 people about livelihood possibilities.
The LSP-NSB initiative is intended to offer additional support to microenterprises throughout the country that have been impacted by natural and human-caused catastrophes, such as pandemic-related health crises.
