The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) has begun delivering 15,000 coconut seed nuts to farmers who have been impacted by Typhoon Odette.

The PCA announced on Wednesday that it worked with the Philippine Armed Forces (AFP) to transport seed nuts using military trucks.

On Wednesday, the AFP’s Civil Relations Service and Southern Luzon Command stated they sent 6,000 MRDxTAG coconut hybrids, 3,000 dwarf coconut seed nuts, and planting equipment to Palawan.

The PCA-Calabarzon has also agreed to supply 20 chainsaws as part of their support for rapid debris removal and lumber usage.

The PCA has been working around the clock to help coconut farmers whose plantations were destroyed by “Odette.”

According to data published on Tuesday, the coconut industry is responsible for PHP1.58 billion of the anticipated PHP10 billion in agriculture damage, since 10 million coconut trees were completely destroyed by the storm.

In addition to agricultural recovery support, the PCA has collaborated with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) to ensure that farmers and their families are rehabilitated.

While the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) uses a cash-for-work program to provide temporary employment to chainsaw operators, carriers, and helpers, coconut lumber will be turned over to the DHSUD for use in the construction of temporary housing facilities.
