The Philippines received another supply of Covid-19 vaccines from the United States on Tuesday, with 168,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccines arriving.

Overall, 12,905,660 doses of Janssen Pharmaceuticals’ single-dose vaccine have been donated to the country, with the US government donating 3,420,860 doses through the COVAX Facility and COVAX itself donating 9,484,800 doses.

Dr. Paz Corrales, a medical consultant for the National Task Force Against Covid-19, said the recent gift is yet another step toward ending the pandemic.

“We appreciate the J&J vaccines being donated by the US government through the COVAX Facility. It’s a great help, especially now that we’re seeing an increase in Covid 19 cases, maybe due to the Omicron strain,” she said in an interview after the vaccines arrived through Emirates Flight EK 332 at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City.

According to Corrales, with new vaccines arriving on a regular basis, there’s no reason not to take advantage of protection against serious diseases and even death.

She went on to say, “Everyone should go to immunization stations.”

Corrales also contributed to the public’s constant warnings to follow health regulations to the letter.

“Let’s go back to following minimum health requirements, such as frequent hand washing, wearing masks, possibly voluntarily wearing face shields, and then social distancing, and, of course, being vaccinated,” she said.

The total number of vaccines provided has reached 213,655,520, including both procured and donated vaccines.
