At Laoag Airport, a hub for locally created Ilocos products has reopened.

The Ilocos-made goods shop, One Town, One Product Philippines Hub (OTOP PH Hub), has reopened at the Laoag International Airport and has moved into a larger, more convenient location in the waiting area.
Amelia Galvez, the head of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Ilocos Norte, expressed confidence that the reopening of the OTOP PH hub, which had previously been closed due to the pandemic, will improve sales of the province’s high-quality goods.
“The DTI, the Office of the Congressman of the 1st District of Ilocos Norte, and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) worked well together to build the OTOP hub at the airport,” she said.
The CAAP previously consented to the DTI’s request to give a free space at the airport to promote locally created goods in support of small business owners.
The DTI claims that because the goods were purchased directly from the makers, they are less expensive than those offered for sale in other commercial businesses.
A key stimulus program for micro, small, and medium-sized firms (MSME), OTOP Philippines was launched by the DTI in 2002 as the nation’s tailored intervention to promote inclusive local economic growth.
Through the initiative, regions and communities can identify, create, support, and market goods and services that are grounded in their unique cultures, resources, connections, and competitive advantages.
The participating local business owners undertook a mentoring program to make sure their goods met international quality requirements before showcasing them at the airport.
In Paoay, Ilocos Norte, master weaver Charito Cariaga stated on Friday, “We are grateful for the assistance of the DTI for their mentoring programs and for giving us the opportunity to extend our market.”
Cariaga, who is 81 years old, is one of the DTI’s busiest partners and never misses a chance to take part in trade shows or other cutting-edge initiatives designed to advance the local loom weaving business.
