Three Zambo road projects are scheduled to open in the second quarter.

The Improving Growth Corridors in Mindanao Road Sector Project (IGCMRSP) will have three key projects ready for inauguration in the second quarter of this year.

According to a news release issued on Saturday, these roads are the Alicia-Malangas Road and the Lutiman-Guicam-Olutanga Road, both in Zamboanga Sibugay, and the Tampilisan-Sandayong Road in Zamboanga del Norte.

The 23.73-kilometer. The Alicia-Malangas Road, which has eight bridges, has an 83 percent physical accomplishment, whereas the Lutiman-Guicam-Olutanga Road, which is 29.70 kilometers long, has a 77 percent physical accomplishment.

The Tampilisan-Sandayong Road is 95 percent complete, with a total length of 15.35 kilometers and three bridges.

The three roads, according to DPWH Undersecretary Emil Sadain, who is in charge of the Unified Project Management Office Operations, provide a rural connection that is critical to poverty eradication.

During his inspection in Zamboanga Sibugay on Thursday, Sadain addressed engineers, contractors, and consultants, “Let us get things done as one of President Rodrigo Duterte’s major infrastructure projects, but never compromise the required quality and safety standards for all our roadworks.”

The Guicam Bridge, which would connect Barangay Guicam, Alicia to Barangay Hula-Hula, Mabuhay in Zamboanga Sibugay and is part of the Lutiman-Guicam-Olutanga Road project heading to Olutanga Island, was also inspected.

The PHP25.26 billion IGCMRSP, which is funded by a credit arrangement between the Philippines and the Asian Development Bank, aims to improve economic development and peace and order in the country.

The project includes the construction of seven road sub-projects totaling 230.22 kilometers, including the 540-meter Guicam Bridge in the Zamboanga Peninsula and three smaller bridges in Tawi-Tawi that span 1.79 kilometers.

Apart from providing rural connectivity, infrastructure projects in the Zamboanga Peninsula also provide local employment, a much-needed safety net to alleviate financial distress, especially in the wake of the pandemic, which has seen large-scale reverse migration from cities to rural areas and provinces.
