On Valentine’s Day, the civil registrar in Koronadal waives fees.
KORONADAL CITY — In honor of the Philippine Statistics Authority’s Civil Registration Month, the civil register office here waived fees for the processing of civil registry documents on Monday (PSA).
Civil Registration Month is spearheaded by the PSA, according to Perla Quidilla, director of the city’s civil registry office.
The yearly event is in honor of the agency’s responsibility to enforce civil registration activities in the country, and it is held in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 682, signed by former President Corazon C. Aquino on January 28, 1991, designating February as Civil Registration Month.
The subject for this year’s Civil Registration Month is “Improving Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Implementation Strategies via Digital Transformation.”
The month-long commemoration will be observed by PSA offices around the country, as well as city and municipal civil register authorities.
Quidilla noted that they choose to grant leeway on Valentine’s Day in order to brighten their consumers’ emotions during this time of plague.
“We chose February 14 to highlight the month’s celebration, particularly since we are still dealing with the issues of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19),” she explained.
In most birth registrations, parents who register their newborns 1-5 months after the 30-day mandatory period are charged a PHP100 penalty.
Those who register six months to one year late will be penalized PHP600, with an additional P300.00 if they register more than one year late.
“All of these are free if you register now,” Quidilla remarked.
Quidilla also stated that the PHP200 fee for the affidavit to use the surname required for the registration of a child born out of wedlock will be waived.
The municipal civil registrar additionally set aside PHP300 if both the groom and bride are Koronadal locals, PHP500 if only one of them is, and PHP1,000 for foreigners with complete paperwork for marriage applications.
The PHP90 fee for signing death certificates was also removed, as was the PHP30 documentary stamp fee.
“However, we are unable to eliminate the price for the transfer of cadaver and burial permit because these are necessary for cemeteries and patients from other locations are admitted to Koronadal hospitals,” Quidilla explained.
Quidilla stated that they will accommodate all of their clients for the entire day while adhering to the bare minimum of health regulations.
