BACOLOD CITY – The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) Negros Station in Murcia town has given 7.6 tons of milled rice to the provincial government of Negros Occidental for Typhoon Odette victims.

The rice, which will be delivered in 695 bags of 10 kilos each, will be sent to affected local government units in southern Negros, including Candoni, which received relief commodities on Thursday.

In the afternoon of Feb. 16, Provincial Executive Assistant Francis Velez and the officer-in-charge of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), Dina Genzola, received the donation from PhilRice Negros Occidental Station through Director Gerardo Estoy Jr. at the Provincial Capitol grounds here.

According to Velez, the province continues to perform weekly assistance activities in typhoon-affected local government units.

On the same day, the Oriental Mindoro Seed Producers Multi-Purpose Cooperative sent 10,820 kilos of rice seeds to the provincial administration.

The OPA, PhilRice Negros Station, Province of Oriental Mindoro, Office of Civil Defense, and Philippine Coast Guard collaborated to make the donation possible.

Typhoon Odette crashed on Negros Occidental on December 16, wreaking havoc on the southern parts of the island, particularly those in the sixth district.

Strong gusts, torrential rains, and widespread flooding hit the cities of Kabankalan and Sipalay, as well as the municipalities of Ilog, Candoni, Cauayan, and Hinobaan.
