In Caraga, 42 Omicron variant instances have been discovered.
BUTUAN CITY, PHILIPPINES โ The Caraga Department of Health (DOH-13) has confirmed the presence of 42 Omicron variant cases in the area.
The report was based on the February 16 biosurveillance result on samples previously given to the University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center, according to a statement released Thursday by the DOH-13 (UP-PGC).
According to the agency, two sets of samples were sent to UP-PGC in December 2018 and January 2022.
“Based on the findings on the samples sent, 43 variants of concern were found in the region, 42 of which are Omicron variant cases and one Delta variant case,” the DOH-13 said.
The Omicron variant cases were found in several provinces across the region, including Agusan del Sur (30 cases), Surigao del Sur (9 cases), and Agusan del Norte (3 cases), according to the agency.
According to the report, the lone Delta variant case was discovered in Remedios T. Romualdez, Agusan del Norte.
“The vast majority of confirmed cases had received all of their vaccines.” “At this point, all individuals have recovered, indicating that only mild to moderate signs and symptoms were present during their active infection,” according to the DOH-13.
The DOH-13 is currently cooperating with local health authorities through the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit to regularly monitor the variants present in the region.
“The Department of Health and local government units with variants of concern have increased their health care utilization capacity by increasing beds to address the surge in cases, reorganizing manpower complement to cater to more patients, securing medications and medical supplies, and monitoring oxygen supply,” according to the DOH-13.
It also stated that remote management or home care management is in place to assist families in their homes in detecting early signs and symptoms of coronavirus disease in 2019. (Covid-19).
“The presence of the Omicron variant in the region is unavoidable and expected now that border restrictions have been eased,” said DOH-13 Regional Director Cesar Cassion in the same statement. “However, we are constantly monitoring our health facilities in terms of bed capacity, manpower augmentation, and logistics supply.”
Continual efforts in Covid-19 vaccination campaigns, he claimed, have proven to protect the population against the Omicron variant’s severe consequences.
“We’re contacting people who haven’t finished the primary series to get their shots, and we’re calling those who are fully vaccinated to get booster doses as soon as they’re eligible,” Cassion said.
