PRRD’s anti-crime successes must be maintained by new public officials: Roque
MANILA, Philippines โ The low crime index for nearly six years, according to UniTeam senatorial candidate Harry Roque, is a key legacy of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s administration that incoming executive and legislative leaders should sustain.
In the last five years, according to Roque, a former presidential spokesman and legislator, the war on drugs campaign has helped neutralize more illicit operations.
He echoed the Philippine National Police’s claim that the anti-drug campaign was a major factor in the 63 percent decline in crime rates from 2016 to 2021 compared to the previous administration’s data from 2010 to 2015.
Within five years of Duterte’s administration, the country’s crime rate dropped to 73 percent, according to the Department of Interior and Local Government.
“Our public order and safety have improved as a result of the government’s anti-drug campaign. It has resulted in more calm neighborhoods “Roque remarked. “This is also why, months before his tenure ends, the President continues to enjoy high levels of trust and contentment. When it comes to pursuing drug cartels and criminals, he is a true doer.”
Roque stated that he would support legislation that benefits the lives, interests, and loved ones of city officials that preserve community peace and order.
Roque is proposing the “Freedom from Threats Act anew” to continue the anti-drug war fight and safeguard public authorities and law enforcement officers.
People who harm or hurt the immediate family members of government leaders and law enforcement officers will face harsher punishments under Roque’s House Bill 2933.
He claims that family members of the high-ranking executive, legislative, and judicial officials are continuously threatened, blackmailed, or even killed in order to induce them to behave in the perpetrator’s best interests.
Families of crime prevention, investigation, and prosecution agents, police, and employees have similar security and safety concerns. They will be able to carry out their responsibilities without fear of retaliation or reprisal during and after their term in office.
Violators will face a prison sentence of at least ten years and a fine of at least PHP10,000 under the Penal Code.
