The government intends to do house-to-house vaccinations in BARMM, according to the Department of Health.
MANILA, Philippines — According to the Department of Health (DOH), the government is considering house-to-house vaccination in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to boost the number of people immunized against the coronavirus.
The DOH added in a message to reporters that in addition to “suyod,” or house-to-house vaccination, other planned activities include information caravans, conversations with people who refuse vaccination, “Ayuda” for people who are willing to be vaccinated, and radio plugging in the region.
The Islamic community in BARMM has been guaranteed that Covid-19 vaccinations have been approved as “Halal” or permitted by the Philippine Halal Certification Board.
Myrna Cabotaje, the head of the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC), said on Tuesday that religion isn’t the main reason for the BARMM’s low immunization rate because Muslim nations like Malaysia, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia have high vaccination rates.
Vaccine hesitation or vaccine preference, limited personnel, fake news dissemination, late submission of daily immunization reports, and lukewarm support from local chief executives (LCEs) and barangay local government units are among the hurdles in the vaccination rollout in BARMM (BLGUs).
To overcome these issues, the government plans to engage more data management workers, hire IT professionals, and give prepaid Wi-Fi and load allowance to ensure that daily immunization reports are submitted on time.
“We will seek support from the Municipal Mayor, Heads of Offices, and the BLGU in order to capacitate and require them to perform their functions in data management, to monitor and evaluate their roles and functional capacity in every bakuna center, and to conduct Resbakuna to barangays with less conflict and where security and safety are observed,” the DOH said.
