DFA expects 13 Filipinos from Ukraine to arrive on Tuesday night.

MANILA, Philippines โ€” The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has announced that 13 Filipinos from Ukraine had arrived in Manila on Tuesday night after departing Warsaw Chopin Airport.

“Mula po ngayon ay en route na ngayon ay en route na ngayon ay en route na ngayon They’re now en route to the Philippines, so kahapon ay naihatid natin natin natin natin natin natin natin natin natin natin natin natin natin natin natin nati We accompanied them to the airport the day before yesterday). In a Laging Handa briefing, Philippine Ambassador to Poland Leah Basinang-Ruiz remarked, “They’re genuinely looking forward to getting home to their families.”

The party was among the 40 evacuees who traveled from Kyiv to Lviv and were met at the Poland-Ukraine border by Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr.

Their travel and flight paperwork, as well as their accommodation in a hotel in Warsaw, was made easier by the Philippine Embassy in Warsaw.

The DFA’s Assistance to Nationals fund covered all repatriation costs, including transportation from Kyiv to Warsaw, meals, and lodging in Lviv and Warsaw, the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test, and travel to Manila.

This batch brings the overall number of Filipinos repatriated to 19 since hostilities in Ukraine began.

On February 18, the first six arrived in Manila.

More Filipinos are anticipated to come to Lviv, where the Philippine Embassy has set up a temporary headquarters, from the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv and other parts of the nation, according to Basinang-Ruiz.

“Sa Wednesday, if hindi man ngayong araw, tutulak naman sila from Lviv at magko-cross ng border patungong Warsaw.” So, nakahanda na ang ating lodging doon at ibu-book natin sila ng flight (If not today, maybe by Wednesday they’ll be able to cross the border from Lviv to Warsaw). Their Warsaw accommodations are set, and we’ll schedule their flights),” she explained.

Basinang-Ruiz said 215 of the estimated 350 Filipinos in Ukraine have contacted the embassy.

Some people, she said, are still hesitant to return home, particularly those who have families in Ukraine.

Basinang-Ruiz, on the other hand, informed them that the embassy would be happy to repatriate them if they so desired, as well as provide any assistance they may require.

“Ina-assure namin sa kanila na hindi namin sila iwanan (We promise not to abandon them),” she stated.

Human Rights Violations

During the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Monday night, Muntinlupa City Representative Ruffy Biazon praised the Philippines’ stand to denounce the attack in Ukraine.

Biazon stated that the Philippines should honor its commitment to the United Nations in safeguarding state sovereignty, political independence, and territorial integrity.

“I fully appreciate the Philippines’ declaration on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, particularly its appeal for a halt to hostilities and the preservation of citizens and civilian facilities, particularly those associated with Ukraine’s culture and legacy. They are, after all, not just for Ukrainians, but also for humanity,” Biazon said in a statement released on Tuesday.

“We must keep in mind that the Philippines may need the support or help of the international community at some point in the future if we are subjected to territorial invasion by other countries,” he added.

The Philippines likewise denounced the use of “separatism and secession as a diplomatic tool for inviting and inflicting horrendous cruelty and indiscriminate killings much beyond any other sort of conflict.”
