The amount of tax collected by GenSan businesses has increased to P355 million.

CITY OF GENERAL SANTOS โ€“ As of Wednesday, the municipal administration has collected roughly PHP355 million in taxes and fees as a result of the extension of yearly business permit renewal and registration.

Despite the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, a total of 10,468 firms have renewed their business permits and registered their new endeavors since February 28.

The city government had originally set January 20 as the deadline for renewing business licenses for this year, but it was extended to February 28 to help local businesses cope with the economic downturn brought on by the pandemic.

According to Zenaida Eturma, assistant department head of the municipal treasurer’s office, their business registration and renewal collection increased by PHP55 million this year compared to 2021, according to their summary assessment and collection report.

In a radio interview here, she said the city collected P320 million in taxes and fees last year.

According to the most recent data from the Business Permit and Licensing Division Office (BPLDO), 300 enterprises have yet to renew their permits, while 76 businesses have stated that they are unable to continue operations.

“Despite this, we’re really pleased with the results,” she said, “since they show that most of our firms are already beginning to recover.”

Eturma claims that the city’s extended lockdowns in 2020, as part of the local government’s community quarantine measures to control the spread of Covid-19, have hampered the expansion of local companies.
