CITY OF LAOAG – From March 8 to April 8, the municipal government of Currimao, Ilocos Norte, announced a month-long free anti-rabies immunization program for cats and dogs in village halls.

Engr. Erickson B. Biag, the municipal agriculturist, urged owners of cats and dogs to take advantage of the municipal government’s free service as part of anti-rabies prevention month.

Biag believes that vaccinations for dogs and cats should be given as soon as possible to prevent them against rabies, which can be fatal to people if they are bitten by an infected animal.

“Animals must be given anti-rabies shots every three years for their protection,” he stated.

When administered in private animal clinics, anti-rabies vaccines cost roughly PHP300-500.

The municipal agriculture office has prepared a target plan to provide the immunizations to the village halls beginning March 8 for the convenience of pet owners.

Personnel from the municipal agriculture office will visit each of Currimao’s 23 barangays to distribute anti-rabies immunizations.

On the official Agriculture Currimao Facebook page, the goal timetable, which runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., has already been announced.

The action will start in Barangay Tapao Tigue and then spread to other villages including Cabuusan, Maglaoi, Pias, San Simeon, Anggapang, Victoria, Comcomloong, Salugan, Gaang, Lang-ayan, Sta. Cruz, Poblacion 1 and 2, Paguludan, Bimmanga, Torre, Lioes, and Pangil.

The local agricultural office also planned a parallel immunization program for goats and sheep, which were previously supplied by the agriculture department to farmer recipients.
