WASHINGTON, D.C. — As Moscow’s conflict on Ukraine enters its fourth week, US President Joe Biden declared on Wednesday that he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin is a “war criminal.”

In an exchange with a reporter, Biden said, “I think he’s a war criminal.”

His comments come a day after the US Senate passed a resolution supporting a war crimes inquiry into Russian President Vladimir Putin for the war in Ukraine.

Russian forces have been reported to have targeted civilian targets in Ukraine, including a maternity facility and a theater in Mariupol where civilians were seeking refuge from bombardment.

“We find such rhetoric by the head of state, whose bombs have killed hundreds of thousands of people around the world, immoral and unforgivable,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told the TASS news agency.

Biden also approved USD800 million in new support for Ukraine on Wednesday in order to boost its forces in the face of the continued conflict. Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, Javelin anti-tank missiles, light anti-armor weapons, anti-armor systems, tactical unmanned aerial systems, and guns and ammo are all part of the current aid package.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, has sparked worldwide censure, financial penalties, and an exodus of global companies from the country.

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, at least 726 civilians have died and 1,174 have been injured.

According to the United Nations, more than 3 million refugees have fled to neighboring nations.
