MANILA – After being reappointed to the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments (CDW) by Pope Francis, Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles will serve another five years as a member of the Vatican’s Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments (CDW).

According to an item on the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) website, the previous CBCP president was reappointed on March 29 but the archdiocese just announced it on April 18.

On March 18, the Vatican’s Secretariat of State informed Archbishop Arthur Roche, prefect of the Vatican department, of his reappointment.

Valles expressed his amazement at being offered another chance to serve in the dicastery in his letter to Roche.

After accepting his reappointment, he said, “It is a joy to serve the Church in this fashion” and to represent the Philippines in the dicastery.

Valles was appointed as a member of the CDW by the Holy Father in October 2016, along with 26 other bishops.

From 2001 to 2009, he was the chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Liturgy.

The Vatican agency is in charge of the liturgical aspects of Church life, especially in terms of encouraging and maintaining liturgical discipline and proper celebration.
