Cebu Island Town will benefit from a new expressway that would boost tourism and investment.
CEBU CITY, Philippines – Cordova’s municipal government has pledged to create a solid foundation for responsible growth, notably in tourism, as the municipality anticipates increased investment following the completion of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).
President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to arrive on Wednesday for the ceremonial opening of the renowned road that connects the islands of Cordova and Mactan to the capital city.
Cordova Mayor Mary Therese Sitoy-Cho said on Tuesday that the town has been pushing itself as an eco-tourism gateway in the Visayas even before the completion of this PHP30 billion toll bridge.
Cordova has a significant benefit in becoming a gateway to Cebu’s southern region. Cho anticipates increased tourist and real estate investment, as well as other job-generating businesses like as business process outsourcing and retail.
Cordova has already developed upgraded local government policies to facilitate the town’s continued growth, with a strong emphasis on responsible development, according to the lady mayor.
Cho claims that the existing laws and regulations in responsible development have been tightened as a result of the increased interest from investors.
Cordova will, without a doubt, be one of the CCLEX’s initial benefactors, she said. In reality, big-ticket investors like the Sy family’s SM Prime are already positioned to profit from the predicted economic recovery.
“My aim for Cordova has always been for it to become the Visayas’ eco-tourism gateway, as represented in the LGU’s mission-vision.” This is supported by my governance platform, which has remained constant since I first decided to become a public servant till today,” Cho said in a statement.
The CCLEX and the Mangrove Propagation and Information Center, both a joint initiative of Manny Pangilinan’s Metro Pacific Group and Cordova, “certainly are instruments toward the fulfilment of our objective,” according to the town mayor.
On April 30, the 8.9-kilometer CCLEX will undergo a soft opening. The ceremonial blessing, which Duterte is anticipated to attend, will take place on April 27.
This breakthrough, Cho stated, is a “dream come true” for Cordova, thanks to the tremendous contributions made by her predecessor father, the late Secretary Adelino Sitoy, during the creation of this key monument.
CCLEX is a project of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway Corp. (CCLEC) in collaboration with Cebu City and the Municipality of Cordova local government units.
CCLEC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), which has completed its first toll road project outside of Luzon with the CCLEX.
