NHA-11 aims to increase demand in order to create more affordable housing.

DAVAO CITY, Philippines โ€“ The National Housing Authority in Davao Region (NHA-11) has requested the public to help generate demand for more low-cost real estate developments in order to provide more inexpensive and adequate housing for Filipinos.

“Of course, if there is demand, we have a cause to build more developments to house Filipino government employees, especially uninformed people,” Alper John Alcaraz, acting NHA-11 district manager, said in a press conference here Wednesday.

Alcaraz stated that proposals for housing developments in the region that launched in October 2021 are still being accepted.

NHA-11 provides well-built residences for less than half the price that private enterprises charge for similar homes.

Madayaw Residences, a 640-unit mid-rise condominium complex in Barangay Talomo, is being offered for PHP1.7 million each 60-square-meter unit.

“This is being done to address the housing shortage in our country. It currently stands at six million people “Alcaraz explained.

According to him, the housing backlog is the result of population growth over time, which has created an imbalance in housing resources.

Sonia Bulseco, the NHA-11 District Manager for Davao Oriental and Davao de Oro offices, said rates in high-rise condominium projects can go up to PHP4 million per studio unit, which is usually smaller than what they offer.

Alcaraz claims that only 300 units are now available in their Davao City projects.

Those interested in purchasing properties just need to meet the NHA-11 regulations, he said.

When there are more applicants than available units in a development, Alcaraz said NHA-11 will hold a raffle to issue certificates of ownership.

Other NHA housing units are available in Samal’s Barangay Cogon, Babak District; Digos City’s Barangay Balabag; Panabo City’s Barangay Quezon; Davao City’s Barangay Biao Escuela, Tugbok District; and Mati City’s Barangay Dahican.

The NHA, according to Alcaraz, is also offering units for Indigenous Peoples in locations deemed safe and free of peace and order threats.
