MANILA – Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) has delivered more than 10 million Philippine Identification (PhilID) cards across the country, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

A total of 10,548,906 PhilID cards had been delivered as of April 30, 2022, accounting for 33.7 percent of PSA’s target for the year.

Undersecretary Dennis Mapa, PSA National Statistician, and Civil Registrar General, said the PhilSys milestone is the result of their collaborative efforts with partner agencies and field offices involved in generating and delivering PhilID cards.

“We are committed to continuing to implement ideas that will accelerate PhilSys operations in all industries,” he said.

At the same time, PSA stated that PhilSys Check can now verify the authenticity of a PhilID card and the information included in its QR code.

According to PSA, the newly released website allows relying parties to simply undertake identity verification among PhilID subscribers.

Meanwhile, Rosalinda Bautista, Assistant Secretary of the PhilSys Registry Office, said that PSA is now working on the PhilSys mobile application, which is a digital form of the PhilID that may be used in public and private transactions before the physical ID card is issued.

“We expect a larger number of Filipinos to acquire their PhilIDs.” Simultaneously, PSA will continue to advance PhilSys services in order to make government and private services more accessible to the people,” Bautista stated.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11055, or the PhilSys Act, into law in August 2018 to create a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident immigrants.

The national ID will be a valid proof of identity that will make public and private transactions, school enrollment, and bank account opening much easier.

It is also expected to increase efficiency, particularly when interacting with government services, as consumers will simply have to display their PhilID during transactions.
