After President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. presented his administration’s objectives for the next six years in his maiden State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, top authorities of this densely populated metropolis expressed hope.

Mayor of Iloilo City Jerry P. Treas said in a statement issued Monday night, “I commend the constructive and energetic direction of PBBM for the country as outlined in his 19 priority initiatives.

Treas expressed his delight at Marcos’ plans to resuscitate the Panay Railways and carry out other ongoing infrastructure initiatives that would benefit the nation, particularly the Visayas.

He claimed that because Marcos had a sensible perspective on overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and international policy, he was able to express his proactive ideas on health, agriculture, and agrarian reforms.

“I respect his views on the environment, PPPs, and the importance of high-quality education. Under my leadership, Iloilo City is eager to collaborate on its future objectives, Treas continued.

Rep. Julienne Baronda of the Iloilo City Lone District, on the other hand, said she appreciated how Marcos “painted the state of the nation with statistics, with figures,” giving a clearer picture of the nation’s history and its future in quantifiable terms.

“I am quite happy that he said that he would support the establishment of economic zones in the regions to aid in the stimulation of local businesses outside of the national capital. Our Metro Iloilo Special Economic Zone was re-filed on July 1, 2022, specifically because we wanted to restart our economy using this long-term fix. I’m thrilled that our dream might at last come true,” Baronda stated in a different statement.

She also praised Marcos’ plan to create regional specialty hospitals after watching the Western Visayas Medical Center’s heart, lung, kidney, brain, and cancer centers come to fruition.

Treas and Baronda both applauded the potential resuscitation of the Panay Railways.

She claimed that Congress should fully back the President’s prioritized policy proposals.
