In order to take advantage of free veterinary treatments from September 27 to September 28, 2022, the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) is urging pet owners to have their animals registered at the closest city veterinary office before September 28—World Rabies Day.

Dr. Loida Valenzuela, the provincial veterinarian, announced on Saturday that registration is now open and that they plan to service 500 pets every day over the specified days.

On September 27 in Laoag and September 28 in Batac City, Valenzuela announced, “Castration, spaying, rabies immunization, deworming, and vitamin supplementation, depending on the needs, will be supplied for free.”

The PVO has been waging a significant anti-rabies campaign with the assistance of numerous governmental and private groups, with the exception of the coronavirus illness outbreak in 2019.

Ilocos Norte was previously recognized for its ongoing anti-rabies efforts as one of the top-performing local government units in terms of rabies prevention and control, with zero human and canine rabies cases and at least a 70% coverage rate for dog vaccinations.

The PVO stated that it hopes to maintain this record by carrying out community education campaigns on rabies.
