US visit is a “very excellent start” for promoting Philippine interests internationally.
After arriving early on Sunday morning, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. reported a fruitful week in the US and claimed to have effectively pushed the nation’s interests internationally.
In his remarks upon arrival, Marcos stated, “We in the Philippine delegation are one in our view that the work done in this tour serves as a good start for opportunities identified to be made into programs and projects to benefit the Philippines our people.”
He continued the work still needs to be done, but I’m delighted to report that we’ve had a successful start.
Attending the 77th United Nations General Assembly and meeting international leaders and members of the US business sector are among the highlights of the President’s visit.
The President of the Philippines made the country’s national statement at the UN, outlining the country’s role in collaborating with the international organization to create a better future and a more just and secure world.
He addressed global challenges like climate change, rising food costs, rapid technological progress, the peaceful settlement of international disputes, the protection of migrants, and the abolition of all types of prejudice.
The President also discussed the Philippines’ involvement in the UN Joint Program on Human Rights, agricultural revival, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) peace process.
He also reaffirmed the Philippines’ adherence to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, or UNCLOS, as the supreme source of legality.
Marcos also visited with Antonio Guterres, the UN secretary general, reiterating the Philippines’ partnership with the organization.
The Philippine leader claimed that as a founding member of the UN, he expressed his desire to increase his nation’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations, particularly in the Middle East, where there is a high concentration of OFWs.
The Secretary-General was subsequently invited to travel to the Philippines soon.
The President communicated with the leaders of the US and Japan, two of the country’s major allies, the objectives for addressing food and energy security, climate change, and other concerns during formal and informal bilateral talks the President held with them during the summit at the UN.
Additionally, he met with several corporate executives from various US corporations who expressed a desire to contribute to the development and economic expansion of the Philippines.
Together, we will seek to address some of our major economic concerns, including, but not limited to, climate change, food security, and energy security, he said.
The President also gave a keynote speech at the Philippine Economic Briefing and the New York Stock Exchange, which attracted institutional investors, senior corporate leaders, fund managers, and business owners.
His delegation also convened four CEO roundtable conversations on IT-BPM, digital infrastructure, international brands, especially in the textile and fashion business, and industry and infrastructure.
He had a roundtable discussion on the state of the current global and regional economies with a limited group of US business community leaders before leaving for the Philippines.
The President spoke with the Filipino community in the US while he was there and expressed his gratitude for their labor and services to both the US and the Philippines.
He shared with them the administration’s initiatives aimed at bettering the lives of Filipinos and conveyed his appreciation and respect for their dedication to the future and welfare of their families in the Philippines.
