By 2050, PAL intends towards net zero carbon emissions.

Philippine Airlines (PAL), the nation’s flag airline, declared Friday that it aims to achieve net carbon neutrality by 2050.

As part of a multi-year commitment to tackle climate change, the airline is making a significant investment in a comprehensive carbon reduction program.

According to PAL, this project “comes at a key time for the global aviation sector, which is attempting to further minimize its environmental footprint in response to the scientific community’s trumpet appeal against irreversible climate change.”

Additionally, it stated that this endeavor will encompass both aviation and ground operations. The process started with switching to renewable energy for the major offices’ electricity supply and exploring the possibility of using sustainable aviation fuel to power its fleet.

A Filipino scientist has been hired by PAL to assist the company in achieving its net zero carbon emission objective.

PAL wants to work toward complete decarbonization and conduct thorough evaluations of its entire greenhouse gas emissions under the direction of an expert.

In a statement, PAL president Stanley Ng stated, “Being the country’s flag carrier, we recognize that our critical role in bridging our country and the rest of the globe goes hand in hand with the need for climate action across international borders.”

The airline plans to create a roadmap for its own net zero emissions approach, emissions projections through 2050 using relevant standards and models that are widely accepted internationally, and science- and evidence-based goals for the entire PAL community.

PAL claimed to be putting into practice fuel-saving measures including single-engine taxiing and lower acceleration altitude.
