Beyond religious celebrations, Mindanao Week of Peace: Estrella

Conrado Estrella III, the secretary of agrarian reform, stated on Thursday that everyone in the country should strive to participate in the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Mindanao Week of Peace, regardless of their views, cultures, or religion.

No of one’s station in life, religion, or culture, Estrella said in a statement that all Filipinos should constantly work toward achieving permanent peace, unity, and harmony.

No matter our political or religious inclinations, we are all Filipinos. We can attain true sustained national progress when we are one nation, he added.

Estrella voiced optimism for the establishment of long-lasting peace in Mindanao, particularly in light of the Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. administration’s commitment to upholding the achievements of the broader Philippine peace process.

The development and peace in Mindanao, which was once beset by wars and conflicts, have been started and are gathering momentum, he continued, as instructed by Marcos.

Amihilda Sangcopan, an undersecretary in the DAR Office of Mindanao Affairs, pointed out that the nation needs more peacekeepers to support the peacebuilding efforts carried out under President Marcos’ unity banner.

“Nothing great comes easily, but I really think that even the seemingly impossible can be accomplished if people truly come together for a common cause. The ability of our administration to bring about peace in Mindanao will be largely dependent on the dedication of our fellow Mindanaoans, who most desire it, Sangcopan remarked.

In accordance with Proclamation Order No. 127, which was issued by former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Mindanao Week of Peace is observed from the last Thursday in November to the first Wednesday in December to “recognize the common aspirations of Mindanaoans to live in peace, unity, and harmony with each other regardless of status in life, religion, or culture.”

In addition to promoting peace in Mindanao and the rest of the nation, the festival aims to bring people together.
