For people with determination, innovation is essential to a fairer society.

The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, called for revolutionary, novel solutions to the world’s issues, which disproportionately afflict people of determination, on this year’s International Day of People of Determination, which occurs on Saturday.

Greater public-private sector collaboration is required, according to Guterres, to create strategies that benefit individuals with ambition, who should also be involved in their creation.

He emphasized the UN’s own initiatives to improve the organization’s accessibility for willful individuals, presenting the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy as a road map to attaining this goal.

He declared, “We are working to examine, address, and promote digital accessibility and lead by example on disability inclusion, from headquarters to the field.

He continued by saying that innovation and technology may be effective tools for inclusion by improving access to information, education, and lifelong learning and creating new opportunities for anyone with the will to engage equally in the workforce and society at large.

According to the UN, one in seven persons, or 15% of the population, has a disability. To ensure that these more than one billion people lead happy lives and are fully incorporated into a society that respects their rights and gains from their contributions, understanding is essential.

Through the perspectives of two disabled South Korean artists, a recently released UN documentary presents this vision of integration and offers fresh insight into what inclusion really means in the diverse world of today.

In “Breaking Barriers One Brushstroke at a Time,” the artists show viewers their residences and daily lives. The artists use their paintings to communicate with the public and so instruct viewers to listen with their eyes.

The works of these autistic artists have been displayed at the Seoul Arts Centre, the biggest and most famous venue of its kind in the nation, and go well beyond being exercises in social development.

The documentary tells a particular story of struggle that also has universal themes: finding our voice in a world that doesn’t listen, expressing truths that rise above the noise and coming of age by accepting who we are and what we have to offer to society. It does this through interviews with the families and intimate glimpses into the lives and loves of two artists, Hansol Kim and Hyeshin Park.

“Breaking Barriers” demonstrates that creativity can be found anywhere, that one’s viewpoint on one’s disability matters, and that “all of us share a common humanity that can be communicated and comprehended via art.”

“Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fostering an accessible and equitable world” is the theme for this year.

The goal of the day is to increase awareness of the plight of people with disabilities in all facets of political, social, economic, and cultural life while advocating their rights and well-being at all levels of society and development.

WHO joins in on this initiative to emphasize how crucial it is to protect the rights of persons with disabilities, ensuring that they may participate completely, fairly, and effectively in society and encounter no obstacles in any aspect of their lives.

A minimum of one assistive device is required by 2.5 billion people, according to the Global Report on Assistive Technology. By 2050, there will likely be 3.5 billion more consumers.

A spectacle or highly developed myoelectric hands or robotic exoskeletons may be necessary.

The education, way of life, health, and general well-being of people as well as their families, communities, and societies are all negatively impacted by the fact that almost nine out of ten people who use assistive technology do not have access to it.
