Governor Rhodora Cadiao stated on Friday that the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award is a persuasive tool that there is transparency and good governance in the province of Antique (LGUs).

Cadiao, who received the SGLG Honor on December 15 at the Manila Hotel, explained in a phone conversation that the award was given following careful evaluation by regional and national teams of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The SGLG is the highest honor given out by the DILG, and Antique has already won it twice, according to Cadiao.

In 2018, Antique first received the SGLG.

The towns of Barbaza, Patnongon, San Jose de Buenavista, and Sebaste all received SGLG prizes in the municipal categories, in addition to the provincial government.

The provincial government and the four towns were evaluated based on ten governance areas, including financial management, disaster preparedness, social protection, health compliance and responsiveness, sustainable education, business friendliness and competitiveness, environmental management, safety and peace and order, tourism, heritage development, culture and the arts, and youth and development, according to Local Government Operations Officer VI Darrelle Thea Abad.

According to Abad in a separate interview, “Local government units have to pass all the 10 governance areas in order for them to be able to get the SGLG award.”

The winning LGUs get an SGLG Incentive Fund from DILG for their top projects as part of the award.

Abad said that while the four municipalities will receive about PHP5 million apiece, the SGLG Incentive Fund for provincial governments is more than PHP9 million.

Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, Jr. attended the award ceremony.
