The Davao Region Department of Health (DOH-11) has recognized this city for having 100% primary vaccination coverage against the coronavirus disease in 2019. (Covid-19).

According to other local government entities in the area, “Only Davao City achieved the accomplishment,” said Dr. Ashley Lopez, the city’s interim health officer, in a statement on Monday.

The City Health Office (CHO) was presented with a PHP150,000 cash prize during the awards ceremony on December 15 that was organized by DOH-11.

“Under the Covid-19 response, we have achieved our aim for A2, or senior citizens, and our immunization rate has reached 101 percent. That is a tremendous accomplishment, Lopez added.

Similarly, the city reached more than 30% of its goal for the first booster vaccination and completely immunized the target demographic for older citizens.

“The Dabawenyos, the LGU, our health sectors, private partners, and our citizenry are all contributing to this effort. We would not have accomplished this without the Dabawenyos’ participation, added Lopez.

Along with recognition for its Covid-19 response, the city also won prizes for its efforts in newborn screening, malaria and tuberculosis management, and local health systems.

Additionally recognized for exemplary practices in newborn screening were the Bunawan and Toril-B district health centers, two healthcare facilities.

Additionally, the city was listed as one of the Top 2 LGUs for the Tuberculosis Control Program.

The districts of Marilog and Paquibato were recognized as malaria-free zones for the malaria control program.

The City Epidemiology Surveillance Disaster Unit was developed by the CHO, a first for the area, and was recognized under the local health systems.
