DND executive promises to help flood-stricken MisOcc more and praises first responders.
The nine local government units (LGUs) impacted by flash floods have received recognition from the Department of National Defense (DND) for their quick emergency response.
DND officer-in-charge Undersecretary Jose Faustino praised the provincial government’s rapid response to the disaster during his visit to the provincial capital on Wednesday.
“Governor Henry S. Oaminal, in your capacity as the head of the provincial disaster risk reduction management council, you did the right thing by responding to the warning, even though it came a little too late. Despite the difficulty in forecasting the rain, you were able to execute precautionary evacuation in several areas with the exception of Oroquieta City “explained Faustino.
Faustino also commended the disaster risk reduction management (DRRM) methods and the prompt deployment of aid supplies.
On December 24, precipitation delivered by the shear line caused floods and landslides in nine of the province’s 14 municipalities.
Oaminal, on the other hand, brought up to Faustino and the head of the Office of Civil Defense Raymundo Ferrer the province’s immediate needs and concerns, such as the connection to the connectivity with the electrical grid and the availability of basic necessities.
Other government departments will be gathered, according to Faustino, to aid the region in recovering from the severe flooding.
He stated that the need for relocating survivors whose homes were damaged will be reviewed.
The governor also said that those whose homes are only partially destroyed will receive support with infrastructure, agricultural, and social requirements.
Update on disaster statistics
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration have increased the rainfall warning as part of a low-pressure area in Northern Mindanao and Caraga areas, although the provincial DRRM office said it has maintained its weather monitoring.
According to a report released on Wednesday by the Northern Mindanao Region’s DRRM Council (RDRRMC-10), the province of Misamis Occidental has evacuated 2,268 families, totaling 9,009 people, to temporary shelters.
Out of the overall 20 fatalities in the area, the RDRRMC-10 additionally recorded 17 deaths from the province.
The provincial board issued a resolution declaring a state of catastrophe for the whole province on Wednesday.
Initial assessments of the province’s infrastructure and agricultural losses came in at PHP29.8 million.
The Cagayan de Oro City government also handed over its disaster support packets to the provincial government on Tuesday evening in an effort to assist Misamis Occidental.
The City DRRM Office (CDRRMO), according to Nick Jabagat, handed out more than 350 food and non-food supplies to provincial authorities.
He stated that 15 members of the CDRRMO will stay in the province for around two weeks to assist with ongoing monitoring and relief efforts.
