Increased PH-China relations and increased business are the goals of PBBM.

On Tuesday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed hope that Manila and Beijing’s relations would improve as a result of his first state visit to China.

In his pre-departure speech at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City, Marcos stated that he aimed to strengthen connections between the Philippines and China by expanding their cooperation in important fields like agriculture, energy, infrastructure, research and technology, trade, and investment.

“I will be starting a new chapter in our extensive strategic cooperation with China when I depart for Beijing. In a number of areas, including agriculture, energy, infrastructure, science and technology, trade and investment, and intercultural exchanges, among others, we will work to strengthen our relationship and increase our cooperation “said he.

“By going on this tour, I continue that heritage of growing bilateral ties to a higher plane of collaboration and reinforcing the bonds of friendship formed between the Filipino and Chinese peoples,” Marcos stated.

The statement was made by Marcos as he admitted that the Philippines and China currently had a “deep, multifaceted, and mutually beneficial” relationship.

The Philippines’ main trading partner, largest import source, and second-largest export market is China.

In addition, China is the second-largest source of international tourists in 2019 and a significant contributor to incoming foreign direct investments and development aid.

“Many prospects, plenty of opportunities”

During his three-day visit, Marcos also hoped that his scheduled meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping would result in “numerous prospects and ample opportunities” for the two nations.

“I look forward to my meeting with President Xi as we seek to move the trajectory of our relations to a higher gear,” he added. “I hope that it will bring many prospects and ample opportunity for peace and development to the peoples of both our nations.”

He stated that during his state visit, more than ten significant bilateral agreements are anticipated to be completed.

There are currently more than a hundred agreements between China and the Philippines.

The president of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos, stated, “I expect to come home to the Philippines with a crop of agreements and investments that will help our countrymen and further strengthen the foundation of our economic environment.

Marcos promised to make use of the chance to welcome Chinese nationals to visit the Philippines as “tourists, students, and investors” while the nation adjusts to the “new normal.”

“Strengthening people-to-people exchanges would enable us to bridge gaps in understanding between our two countries at every level, in addition to sharing the wonders of our archipelago with our Chinese friends,” he said.

“I’ll advocate for the return of travel and cultural exchange between our two nations. As we accelerate our economy’s post-pandemic growth in Beijing, we will want to fully utilize the potential of our dynamic trade and investment partnerships “Marcos threw in.

Marcos stated that important figures from the private sector, who work with his administration to strengthen the Philippine economy, will accompany him on his journey to China.

putting political-security problems to rest

Marcos stated that in order to resolve the concerns involving the two nations, he would also discuss political and security matters with Xi.

“In this regard, I also look forward to talking about bilateral and regional political security concerns. The problems separating our two nations are issues that shouldn’t exist between friendly nations like China and the Philippines. To the mutual advantage of our two countries, we’ll try to find solutions to such problems “said he.

Additionally, Marcos committed to keeping pushing forward efforts in key areas to guarantee food security, adequate and reliable energy, and a sustainable digital economy.

Aware of China’s help to the Philippines during the height of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, he also expressed gratitude for it.

“As a country, we are thriving as we recover from the effects of a pandemic. Our collaboration with China in the never-ending battle against the attack of Covid-19 contributed to the strengthening of confidence between our two nations “added Marcos.

“I remember how deeply moved and grateful our nation was when China offered to lend a helping hand by providing vaccines, personal protective equipment, and technological support during the pandemic’s initial onslaught. You were the first to step up and help us, “Added he.

The President will be traveling on his first bilateral trip outside of the ASEAN region.
