Californians in the US state greeted the new year in fear following an earthquake and flood disaster.

The city of Rio Dell in Humboldt County had a 5.4-magnitude earthquake on Sunday, according to the US Geological Survey.

According to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, the earthquake caused significant damage to many homes in the city, as well as power and water cuts for 50% of the population.

Rio Dell also experienced a magnitude 6.4 earthquake on December 20 that left two persons dead and extensive damage.

Additionally, flooding still caused havoc in several areas of the Golden State.

Due to flooding brought on by storms over the weekend, two persons have been confirmed deceased. Numerous automobiles and residences were submerged in floodwaters in Sacramento, the state’s capital and thousands were left without power.

Many stranded Sacramento citizens were also helicoptered to safe regions by emergency teams.

According to several news sources, heavy rains in California and the neighboring state of Nevada caused about 235,000 houses and businesses to lose electricity.
