According to the governor, Gerard Espina, the provincial administration of Biliran has helped at least 20,029 residents over the previous five months through its seven satellite offices.

Espina stated in a statement that 17,393 people received free medications, 330 people received financial assistance for medical care, and 97 people received funeral assistance.

The remaining people receive wheelchairs, crisis support, financial aid for recent grads, reading glasses, and other things.

Espina expressed gratitude for the chance to reach residents who live a long way from Naval, the provincial capital, with his services.

In the cities of Almeria, Biliran, Cabucgayan, Caibiran, Culaba, Kawayan, and Maripipi, satellite offices have been established since August.

According to Espina, all satellite offices are located in the town center but away from the municipal building.

The island village of Maripipi is the farthest from the provincial capital, and its residents previously had to travel to Naval town and back to the island by boat and jeepney, both of which took hours and cost PHP1,000 each, according to Espina.

Residents can virtually speak with the governor or department heads of the provincial administration in each office, which includes three employees and a laptop.

The fourth-smallest province in the nation, Biliran has more than 171,000 people living in eight towns.
