Marcos promises to keep improving the PH transportation system.

On Monday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his commitment to continuing to improve the nation’s transportation infrastructure in order to alleviate commuters of their daily misery caused by traffic congestion.

In his speech at the unveiling of the Metro Manila Subway Project’s (MMSP) tunnel boring machine (TBM) at its depot in Barangay Ugong, Valenzuela City, Marcos promised to “continue to invest and improve our transportation system as well as pursue more projects in the years to come so that Filipinos can gain greater access to places of work, commerce, recreation, and other vital areas.”

According to him, “having a functional and efficient transportation system will have multiplier effects on jobs, the economy, and our society. It will also bring comfort, ease, and an easier life for everyone.”

According to Marcos, progress on the nation’s first subway system gives Filipinos hope for “better days” by promoting economic growth and employment creation.

He expressed gratitude to both the public and commercial sectors for their efforts in ensuring the success of what he called an “ambitious” undertaking.

He specifically thanked the Japanese government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for participating actively in the implementation of the infrastructure initiative for the Philippines.

Without JICA’s aid, Marcos claimed, the Philippines would not have completed all of its numerous infrastructure projects.

I am convinced that they will help us design our railway infrastructure and keep them at pace with the highest international standards, he said, adding that this tunnel boring machine “highlights Japan’s experience and technology and trailblazing contributions in the modern world.”

He thanked the joint venture of Japanese and Filipino businesses for cooperating with the Philippine government on the Metro Manila Subway Projects Contract Package 101 and expressed the hope that it would be finished on schedule.

To ensure that Filipinos may benefit from the project as soon as possible, he stated, “I trust that both of you and the DOTR would not renege on your commitment to complete the contract package before the end of 2027.

In addition, Marcos asked for their continuing understanding, confidence, and help, particularly when major projects might take years to complete.

Let the introduction of this tunnel boring machine serve as evidence of the administration’s resolve to carry out initiatives started by the last one while also improving upon them, he said.

He added that the TBM’s launch was “a very appropriate beginning” for a year filled with renewed zeal and dedication to his administration’s goal of bettering Filipinos’ quality of life.

We are also motivated by the selfless people who work tirelessly to make our vision for the transportation industry a reality, the speaker added.

From Valenzuela City to Pasay City, the PHP488.48 billion Metro Manila subway will span around 33 kilometers across seven cities, with a daily capacity of over 519,000 people.

The transportation project is also anticipated to increase economic activity in Metro Manila neighborhoods and create 18,000 employees.

“A new era in PH transportation”

According to a Japanese diplomat, the Metro Manila metro project’s advancements have led him to assume that a “new dawn” is now “on the horizon.”

According to Matsuda Kenichi, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Japanese Embassy in the Philippines, the concept was initially put out in 1973 as part of the Manila Metropolitan Area’s Urban Transport Study.

“During the administration of the late President Marcos Sr., the plan was first put into motion. It can be argued to be a legacy that His Excellency President Marcos Jr. is now responsible for carrying out decades later, Kenichi remarked.

He commended Marcos and Bautista for their tireless efforts and leadership in ensuring that the project continued to advance steadily despite the coronavirus outbreak.

In order to ensure that Filipinos may benefit from a subway system, Kenichi reaffirmed that the Japanese government will continue to collaborate with the Philippines.

Let me promise you that the Government of Japan will continue to work with you on this flagship project at top speed until Filipinos may finally take advantage of a subway’s convenience.
