The 2017 schedule of fair market value (FMV) of land will be the foundation upon which the Quezon City administration bases its collection of “amilyar” or real property tax (RPT) this year.

A previous city legislation mandating real estate assessments every three years was passed.

On the petition of the Alliance of Quezon City Homeowners’ Association Inc., the Supreme Court imposed a temporary restraining order (TRO) in 2017 prohibiting the city from enacting an increase that would have generated an additional PHP700 million in income in the first year.

The TRO was lifted by the top court the next year because the petitioners lacked the authority to challenge the ordinance.

The local government kept the raise suspension in place despite the positive ruling in order to counteract the consequences of inflation and the Covid-19 outbreak.

“Through the years, we have been able to finance effective initiatives thanks to the persistent support of our people and their tax payments. We anticipate receiving the same support as we work to construct and renovate important public facilities, including footbridges, parks, schools, and hospitals, as well as, of course, to raise money for the social services we provide, particularly to the marginalized, “Ed Villanueva, the city treasurer, stated in a news release on Tuesday.

Taxpayers who pay their yearly dues by March 31 or earlier are eligible for a 20 percent discount, while those who pay in installments or at the end of each quarter are eligible for a 10 percent reduction.

Villanueva recommended overdue taxpayers to pay up in order to avoid legal action or having their properties put up for sale.
