In order to assist with the disaster and relief efforts in Ilocos Norte, the Philippine Air Force (PAF) has sent one of its helicopters there.

The local disaster risk reduction and management officer of the Ilocos Norte government, Marcell Tabije, stated on Tuesday, “We now have a standby helicopter at the Laoag airport which will be quickly available in times of need.”

The PAF standby helicopter, according to Tabije, would enable a prompt reaction whenever there are reports of missing fishermen at sea or when it’s necessary to transport relief goods and other necessities to remote villages during poor weather. Typhoons regularly hit Ilocos Norte.

The province had already asked for the PAF to send out one chopper for the province.

As opposed to before, when a helicopter requested by the local administration would still go from the provinces of Pampanga or Tarlac, Tabije claimed they now feel more at peace knowing that a helicopter is quickly available.

During emergency efforts, “time is of the essence,” he continued.

However, Tabije expressed optimism that no adverse situation necessitating the use of a helicopter will occur within the province, keeping everyone safe.
