Soon, Albay Electric Cooperative will begin line-clearing activities

Starting on January 14, Albay Electric Cooperative (ALECO) will receive trucks from the provincial government of Albay for its operations to remove roads and power lines.

The Provincial Engineering Office chief Dante Baclao has been directed by Governor Edcel Grex Lagman to give ALECO the services of two dump trucks and a boom truck, according to a social media post made on Tuesday by the Albay provincial information office.

In order to formally lend the trucks to Engr. Wilfredo Bucsit, who has been named by the National Electrification Administration (NEA) as acting general manager (AGM) of the cooperative, Governor Lagman visited Aleco’s main office in Old Albay District, Legazpi City, this afternoon, according to the post.

According to Bucsit, the assistance is crucial for cleaning roads and lines because electrical wires are already located along heavily vegetated areas.

“The electricity lines are going along thickly covered weedy areas, therefore we must clean them to prevent system loss,” Bucsit added. “Masyado nang masukal ang pinagdaraanan ng mga power lines.”

The abovementioned program will also receive manpower support and other essential assistance from employees of the Albay Provincial Engineering Office (PEO).

From January 14 to January 31, clearance activities will be conducted in Albay’s Third District.

The scheme is anticipated to result in significantly cheaper electricity rates over the next few months.

The provincial government of Albay paid ALECO PHP1.6 million on Tuesday to settle its outstanding electric obligations.

Lagman personally delivered the funds to pay the cooperative’s debts to the province.

The governor also urged the other LGUs in Albay to support ALECO by making their payments on time.

In order to prevent their operations from being affected by the arrears, Lagman said it is crucial for LGUs to follow suit. This has to happen within the month of January.

If all LGUs pay their bills, according to ALECO records, a total of PHP16.8 million will be collected.

The Malilipot, Pio Duran, and Manito municipalities were praised by the governor for having no electrical debts.
