Through its “Amoma (take care),” an Ilonggo Tourism Hospitality Program, the local administration in this place aimed to ensure that the distinctive characteristic of Ilonggos in extending a warm welcome to visitors and tourists would be perpetuated and passed on to the next generation.

The director of the City Tourism and Development Office, Junel Ann Divinagracia, stated in an interview on Monday that “we need to capitalize on this, harness this for our future generation because it is our identity as Ilonggos, the way we take care of our guests.”

The tourism official claimed that Ilonggos are recognized for being affectionate and soft-spoken, qualities they would rely on to promote local tourism.

In addition to learning how to be diplomatic, stakeholders like taxi and tricycle drivers and front-line tourism workers will also learn how to answer questions politely and give factual information.

Divinagracia continued, “Through this program, we would like to strengthen the tourism culture in Iloilo City.

They are now finalizing plans for the program’s implementation, which they hope to begin in the first quarter of 2023 in collaboration with the Iloilo City Tourism Council.

She mentioned training and seminars for frontline employees as one of the tactics.

They will look for assistance from the business community and the Department of Tourism’s regional office to ensure the program’s viability.
