PH’s official delegation at WEF played a significant role: PBBM
According to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., all of the official members of the Philippine delegation to the WEF in Davos, Switzerland in 2023 played “important responsibilities” in advancing the country.
Prior to departing for the United States, Marcos spoke with the Philippine media in Zurich, Switzerland. He said that in order to close crucial deals and strengthen strategic partnerships and investments with important business leaders, including the CEOs of Fortune 100 companies, the delegation’s participation was required.
“When will we have another opportunity in the following two days to speak with CEOs of leading Fortune 100 companies? The President stated, “So, whoever we speak with, kailangan nandoon ‘yung secretary na pwede niyang sagutin, pwede niyang kausapin (the concerned Cabinet secretary must be available to answer any questions or discuss matters).
Senator Mark Villar and House Speaker Martin Romualdez, among others, were included in the delegation, and Marcos stated that legislation is “an integral element of what we are doing” in response to their involvement.
If a potential investor is not impressed with our law, he or she will put us in an unpleasant situation, the speaker said. “Let’s imagine you chat with a potential investor,” he or she said.
“So at least we have the politicians here who can say, ‘Well, we can do something about that,’ or ‘No, that is vital to us that we keep it,'” the legislators said.
He said that the group is especially fortunate “to have on board” current House Senior Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, a former president.
In answer to a media question regarding claims that his vacation to Switzerland was “lavish,” Marcos made the comments.
Another rumor claimed that Marcos led a massive delegation of 70 people to Switzerland, a notion that Malacaang had earlier debunked.
The President attended WEF events and held a number of meetings with business executives outside of the international forum. The President was joined by the official delegation of the nation, which included members of his Cabinet, MPs, business tycoons, and other government officials.
The participation of Marcos in the WEF, according to Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual, who is also a member of the delegation, sparked interest from investors in a number of sectors, including the operations of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), the digital economy, and the processing of minerals.
Marcos acknowledged his delight with the results of his official delegation during and outside of the WEF at a meeting with the Filipino community in Zurich, Switzerland.
We are happy that we were able to accomplish the majority, if not all, of what we set out to do while we were here, he said.
