NegOr logs 80% of the national ID list-up while PSA increases registration.

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), 80% of the people in Negros Oriental have signed up for a national ID.

Ariel Fortuito, chief statistical analyst and director of PSA-Negros Oriental, discussed the difficulty of recruiting the remaining 20% in an interview on Tuesday.

As the campaign has slowed down a bit, Fortuito stated, “We are doing everything we can, like setting up satellite registration shops and house-to-house inspections, to locate and sign up the remaining population in Negros Oriental to the national identity system.”

According to PSA-Negros Oriental figures, 1,017,903 people who are at least five years old have registered with the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) as of January 30.

According to the 2020 Census on Population and Housing, this amounts to 80.47 percent of the province’s total population of 1,432,990.

The capital of Negros Oriental, Dumaguete, had the greatest number of registrants among its six cities and 19 municipalities, with 106,857 (or 90.94 percent of its 134,103 population); Jimalalud was next, with 25,072 (87.84 percent of 32,256); Pamplona, with 30,302 (85.98 percent of 39,805); Guihulngan City, with 77,615 (85.8 percent of 102 (83.11 percent of 38,159).

The registration rate for the remainder was 82 percent or less.

In an effort to reach the goal before the end of the year, Fortuito reaffirmed his request to the local government units (LGUs) to assist the PSA in locating and encouraging their inhabitants to register for the national identification system.
