On Wednesday morning, Bantay Dagat staff from Sipalay City in the Negros Occidental province released about 45 sea turtle hatchlings at Poblacion Beach.

Edsel Toledo, the coordinator of Bantay Dagat, stated that they discovered the nest at the end of November 2022 and kept it safe until the eggs hatched, which typically takes place after 60 days.

He stated that the hatchlings came from one of the three nests that the Bantay Dagat attentively watched.

The species of the hatchlings are still being determined, according to Toledo.

After two batches of hatchlings were sent back to their natural environment in January, sea turtle hatchlings were released in Sipalay City for the third time this year.

The local conservation area in Barangay 5 is where 82 juvenile turtles were released, according to a notification from the municipal government on Jan. 10.

In Barangay Nauhang, 22 hatchlings were also returned to the water on the same day after being given to the Bantay Dagat.

These are the outcomes of municipal efforts to conserve the maritime environment, according to a previous statement from the city administration headed by Mayor Maria Gina Lizares.

The statement said, “We are urging the community to get involved in our conservation efforts not only for marine life but also for our forest regions and other natural resources.

13 newly hatched green sea turtles were also released by Bantay Dagat staff members in Barangay 5 in February of last year.
